Orgain Protein Shake Review – #1 Selling Organic Pre-Mixed Protein
The Orgain Protein Shake and Orgain Organic Protein Powder are the #1 selling Organic post workout supplements. Orgain’s pure and chemical free ingredients are the reason for their success. On top of that, they also come at an affordable price. Because of this, I thought I would put together this Orgain Protein Shake review.
I’m always searching for the healthiest, most effective post workout recovery protein products, and this one comes with some of the best ratings. Organic exercise supplements are sweeping the industry as society has become more conscious of what we are putting in their bodies.
Protein powder is the best source for muscle recovery, increased strength, better body tone, and even weight loss. I’m going to discuss the importance of Organic and what it takes to be labeled so. I’ve purchased the Orgain Organic Shake as well as their Vegan equivalent.
The taste and drinkability are important, but also the effects on possible bloating and smooth digestion as well. This first hand tasting and product review will familiarize you more with your possible purchase.
Orgain Protein Shake Review
I purchased both the Orgain Organic 26 Gram Protein Shake as well as the Organic Vegan 21 Gram Protein Shake. The main differences between these two are the source of protein they are made from. The higher protein version contains whey, which is more concentrated in Amino Acid proteins because it is a milk based product. Ths Vegan is strictly a plant-based product.
Orgain Organic Protein Shake
First I’m trying the 26 gram version of the Orgain Organic “on the go” shake (there is also a 20 gram clean protein version). This version is not a meal replacement and doesn’t contain all of the frills such as the 21 vitamins and minerals. It is strictly a healthy, high protein shake sourced from plant protein.
Unlike the other products that the Orgain line is famous for, this one doesn’t contain plant proteins. However, it is still Organic and used grass-fed cows for its protein. This shake should still be fine if you are Lactose intolerant, since the way that it’s processed, it is 99% Lactose-free.
Orgain Protein Shake is sweetened with Stevia which is naturally extracted from sugar. Because of Stevia, this shake only contains 1 gram of sugar. This shake is naturally flavored and doesn’t contain any artificial coloring. Natural ingredients are the norm for Organic products.
The Orgain Protein version only comes in Creamy Chocolate fudge and Vanilla Bean. Both of these sound tasty, but I chose the Chocolate. The constancy was thick and foamy just like a whey based protein shake should be. The Chocolate Fudge was just what I expected. Be sure to drink it cold.
It wasn’t overly sweet or flavored. Many times products that use Stevia tend to be too sweet. Because of the natural flavoring, it was not a strong Chocolate flavor. This was fine by me since I’m not eating dessert here.
The Orgain Protein Shake was satisfying and quite filling for a 14 ounce drink. 26 grams of protein is an appropriate amount for post workout recovery drink. The whey protein concentrate that this is sourced from didn’t give me any problems during digestion.
Orgain Protein Shake Pros

- 26 grams of protein
- 1 gram of sugar
- 150 calories
- 4 grams of fiber
- Sweetened with Stevia
- Creamy Chocolate Fudge was tasty

- Comes in only two flavors

Orgain Organic Vegan Protein Shake
This Vegan Protein shake is modeled after Orgain’s #1 selling powder brand, Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder. So the next day I decided to try the all plant-based Vegan shake to see what an Organic, animal product free, pre-mixed shake would taste like.
The Vegan version also comes in only 2 flavors, but I chose the Chocolate Fudge again to keep things consistent with what I tried prior. The Chocolate was a little less creamy and flavorful than the whey protein shake from previously. This is because plant-based proteins, in general, do not taste quite as good as whey. The flavor and texture was a lot more like the Orgain protein powdered version.
Even though the plant-based Vegan drink was not quite as tasty, I prefer a more natural taste in my nutrition drinks. The fact that this is a plant-based protein with 7 grams of fiber, making it more filling. Plant proteins are more easily digested, so I enjoyed it to the end.
Plant proteins contain more fiber, therefore keep you feeling full longer. One advantage of keeping fuller is that you won’t need to eat as big of a meal later and it will help to avoid snacking. This is why plant proteins work great in conjunction with a weight loss program. Because it is 100% plant-based, there is no need to worry about Lactose in this one.
Orgain Organic Vegan also has the natural sweetener, Stevia which enables this to be a zero-calorie drink. As with the previous shake, the Vegan option was still only 150 calories. If you are on a high protein diet, 21 grams is still a good amount for a 14 ounce serving. Plant-based sources tend to be less concentrated in proteins, but not this one.
Orgain Vegan Protein Shake Pros
- Inexpensive for a Vegan “on the go” shake
- 21 grams of protein
- Zero sugar
- 150 calories
- 100% mixed plant proteins
- Sweetened with Stevia
- 7 grams of fiber
- No cholesterol
Possible Negatives
- Costs more than Orgain powder
- Less creamy and flavorful
- Comes in only two flavors

Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder
I’ve mentioned this alternative in my review a couple of times because the Organic powder is how it all started. This is an inexpensive, Organic, nutritious, low-calorie protein, all in a 100% plant-based product.
Orgain Organic Protein Powder is in my normal post workout protein rotation. Because I’m always home after the gym, I don’t usually need an “on the go” option for my muscle recovery supplement.
Like the Orgain shakes, this powder contains 21 grams of plant-based Organic protein with only 150 calories per serving. This is also a vegan, “mixed” plant protein. When they take proteins from several different plant sources, it becomes a mixed protein which then provides all of the 21 Amino Acids proteins necessary for optimum muscle growth.
The Orgain powder is all natural with no artificial ingredients. It is also zero-calorie, sweetened with Stevia. Because it is a powder form, it is less expensive per serving than the more convenient pre-mixed choices. It also lasts longer than a refrigerated product.
Two scoops equal one very filling fiber-packed serving. If you are on a high protein diet, the powder form enables you to take as much protein as you need depending on your goals. I like to mix this powder with Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, but water works just fine.
Orgain Protein Powder also comes in 6 different flavor selections. One flavor is called “naturally unsweetened” which I’m afraid to try. Luckily, these products come with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee is you don’t like it.
One last recommendation and my personal favorite is the Orgain Organic Superfoods. This is exactly the same as the regular Organic powder, but it contains greens and other nutrients. In fact, it has 50 different antioxidants, greens, and other nutrients from Kale to Flax Seed.

Why Orgain Organic?
Unfortunately, the Organic protein category is a very small one, but it is beginning to explode. These proteins are aimed at fit individuals that want to carry their healthy diet into their supplement use. Protein powders and shakes are used post workout to get the best muscle recovery. This is the #1 supplement necessary to build muscle to be bigger and stronger.
The other top use for protein powders is for weight loss. This slow digesting, filling protein can be taken for breakfast or any time of the day. It makes your stomach feel full which prevents eating large meals and also helps to avoid snacking. The premixed protein “on the go” version may be even more helpful for this reason.
The Organic part means that the ingredients have to be approved by USDA Organic. This means that the ingredients they contain can’t be grown or manufactured with any man made fertilizers, pesticides or other chemicals. The farmers are also encouraged to use sustainable and responsible farming practices.
We all have different reasons and goals in mind when purchasing a protein supplement. For some, price can be an issue. Others may be trying to stay away from animal or dairy products(Lactose).
With Organic, we are trying to avoid foods grown with man made chemicals. Along with purchasing Organic foods, we are also avoiding artificial colors and flavors.

What Orgain Protein Shakes Are Made Of
Orgain Organic products are made of mixed plant proteins or whey from cows that are fed with Organically grown grass. These products are high in nutrients and Amino Acids. This protein supplement is one of the healthiest available and also very low in calories per serving.
Orgain Organic Protein Shake contains 26 grams of whey protein and only 1 gram of sugar but doesn’t have the 21 vitamins and minerals like the nutritional version. Even though this is a milk based, whey protein, Orgain clams that this shake is 99% Lactose free.
For those of you that prefer not to have animal products in your diet, they have a great alternative, the Orgain Organic Vegan Protein Shake. This contains 21 grams of mixed plant proteins and zero sugar, and like the others, contain nothing artificial. If you are Lactose intolerant, this product does contain any milk products.
Orgain Protein Shake comes in a pack of twelve. One bottle averages about $2.50 each which is not a bad price for convenience. The Orgain Organic Protein Powder version averages around $1.50 per serving.
Orgain advertises that its product is Gluten Free, Soy Free, Kosher, non-GMO and of course, approved by the USDA Organic agency. The Orgain line of products are also made without using any artificial colors or flavors.
Orgain Protein Shake Reviews Wrap Up
I’m a believer in the Orgain line of Organic protein products. As you can see, there are several choices to choose from. There are even more varieties, but I chose to go with the most popular and my personal favorites.
These are all USDA Organic, meaning that they are grown and processed without any man made fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemicals. The pre-mixed shakes cost a little more but come with better convenience.
This whey protein from this version is made from cows that are Organic grass-fed. If you are Lactose intolerant, this version may not be good for you. The Organic Vegan Shake and the Orgain Organic line of powders are all 100% plant-based.
I’ve personally used all of these and feel that they are worth trying, especially when cold. The natural flavors and sugars are blended well so they are not overly sweet or have an overpowering flavor.
Because of the all natural, Organic, high-quality ingredients, I believe that the Orgain product line is one of the healthiest out there. I recommend these for better muscle recovery and increased muscle growth. They will even work well with a long term weight loss program.
